Service Description

When Your Child Is Hurting: A Parent’s Guide to Self-Harm Guidance, reassurance and practical support for worried parents. Sadly, we are seeing a rise in children and young people who are harming themselves as they struggle with their mental health. For parents and carers, this can be frightening, confusing and overwhelming. This supportive webinar is designed for parents and carers who are worried that their child may be engaging in self-harming behaviours, or who want to better understand how to respond if this is something their child is experiencing. The session focuses on helping parents feel more informed, supported and less alone at a time when worry can feel all-consuming. The session is delivered by Nikki Webster, Mental Health Nurse and Therapist, who brings a wealth of both professional and lived experience in supporting children and young people who are currently self-harming, or who have self-harmed in the past. This is a compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore what helps, what to avoid, and how to stay connected to your child during a very difficult time. During the session, we will cover: Why some children self-harm and what this behaviour may be communicating How best to support your child with care, consistency and understanding An introduction to self-harm reduction approaches, focused on safety and support. Practical guidance on building a safety plan alongside your child Information on where to turn for further help and support Space for gentle discussion around your own concerns and questions as a parent or carer. This session is not about blame or quick fixes. It is about helping you feel better equipped to respond with compassion, clarity and hope.
