You might be wondering why you're coming to Bridge the Gap — and the good news is, it’s not because anything is wrong with you. Lots of people come here (even adults!) to learn about their feelings and how to handle tricky thoughts.
Think of it like swimming lessons, but for your emotions!
Our sessions are made just for you - fun, relaxed, and safe. Everyone’s different, so we’ll find what works best for you. You won’t have to do or say anything you're not ready for, and if something doesn’t feel right, we can change it together.
It’s normal to feel a bit nervous, but we’re really looking forward to getting to know you and helping you feel more settled, safe, and more in tune with your emotions. 🌈
what to expect

sessions at our hub
At Bridge the Gap, your session will be in a cosy room, each one feels calm and welcoming, with lots of lovely things to help you feel at ease.
We’re not a school, we’re a safe space where children and teens come to talk, explore their feelings, and feel supported. Sessions last around 45 minutes and are made just for you.
You’ll come in on your own, but your grown-up can wait just outside. If you want to show them the room first, that’s totally fine - or you can keep it just for you.
If you have any questions before your session, just ask your parent or carer to get in touch — we’re happy to help!

sessions at school
If your 1:1 sessions happen at school, a teacher will bring you to meet your practitioner in a quiet, private room. Sessions last about 45 minutes.
Even at school, we make sure the space feels comfortable and private. Practitioner means the person you’ll see, but you’ll just call them by their first name.

what is emotional literacy?
Sometimes we feel like we have to be happy all the time, but that’s not how feelings work. It’s normal to have lots of different emotions: happy, sad, worried, or angry and that’s okay!
In our Emotional Literacy sessions, we’ll learn about all these feelings, how they show up in our bodies, and what thoughts come with them. We’ll also explore ways to handle tricky emotions and find healthy ways to feel better.

adult and child sessions
At Bridge the Gap, we offer special sessions for children and their trusted adults. Our sessions cover topics like worry, confidence, sleep, staying calm, and handling difficult emotions.
You can take part as much or as little as you like, it’s all about what feels right for you. Our space is warm and welcoming, and the sessions are designed to help both you and your adult learn useful ways to feel better.
If you have any questions, your adult can contact us anytime.

small groups
In our small group sessions, all the children are there because they want to learn about the same thing, like learning coping skills or managing worries. You’ll be in a small group where everyone understands what you’re working on. A practitioner will be with you the whole time to support you and help with activities, whether they’re fun games or quieter moments. It’s a safe and friendly space where you can learn new skills and share your experiences if you want to.
