You might be wondering why you’re coming here and the good news is, it’s not because anything is “wrong” with you. Lots of children (and even adults!) come to learn about their feelings and tricky thoughts.

Think of it like swimming lessons, but for your emotions!

We use something called BEAM — it helps you notice, name and navigate your feelings so you can feel more confident.

Our sessions are fun, relaxed, and safe. You won’t have to do or say anything you’re not ready for, and we’ll work together in a way that feels right for you.

sessions at our hub

At Bridge the Gap, your session will be in a cosy room, each one feels calm and welcoming, with lots of lovely things to help you feel at ease.

We’re not a school, we’re a safe space where children and teens come to talk, explore their feelings, and feel supported. Sessions last around 45 minutes and are made just for you.

You’ll come in on your own, but your grown-up can wait just outside. If you want to show them the room first, that’s totally fine - or you can keep it just for you.

If you have any questions before your session, just ask your parent or carer to get in touch — we’re happy to help!

sessions at school

If you’re seen in school, your practitioner will come to you there. They’ll make sure you have a private space where you can talk, be creative, and learn together.

what is beam and emotional literacy?

It’s normal to feel lots of emotions - happy, sad, worried, angry.

BEAM (Behaviour Emotional Awareness Method) helps you notice, name and navigate those feelings.

That’s called emotional literacy - understanding your emotions and finding healthy ways to handle them.

adult and child sessions

At Bridge the Gap, we offer special sessions for children and their trusted adults. Our sessions cover topics like worry, confidence, sleep, staying calm, and handling difficult emotions.

You can take part as much or as little as you like, it’s all about what feels right for you. Our space is warm and welcoming, and the sessions are designed to help both you and your adult learn useful ways to feel better.

If you have any questions, your adult can contact us anytime.

small groups

In our small group sessions, all the children are there because they want to learn about the same thing, like learning coping skills or managing worries. You’ll be in a small group where everyone understands what you’re working on. A practitioner will be with you the whole time to support you and help with activities, whether they’re fun games or quieter moments. It’s a safe and friendly space where you can learn new skills and share your experiences if you want to.
